Acts 26:8  Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead? (NIV)

Tame gods on leashes are preferred by so many to the all-powerful God who does things like raising Jesus from the dead. It’s easier to control a little statue made of wood, stone, or gold than the true and living God who numbers our heartbeats and gives each breath of life.

No little statues for me, thank you.

Give me the God whose words create worlds.

Give me the God whose breath gives life.

Give me the God whose love transforms all it touches.

Give me the God who knows my name and has a wonderful plan for my life.

Give me the God who will meet me when my heartbeats pause on this side of the eternal vale.

Give me the God who has made a place for me in the perfect peace of his presence.

No little statues. No ornamental jewelry. No self-serving words of personal manifestation.

No, instead, give me Jesus.

Yes, give me Jesus whose footprints lead away from the cemetery.

Yes, give me Jesus who is the Light of the World, Living Water, Bread of Life, Good Shepherd, Alpha and Omega, and so much more.

Yes, give me Jesus whose resurrection started turning death’s clock in the opposite direction.

Of course, our God raises the dead. All the dead, except for those little statues. They remain forever mute and pathetic and powerless. Sad little tokens, aren’t they?

I will entrust my life to the God who created it and redeemed it and will retrieve it on that great getting-up morning.

Our Father, thank you for the gift of life. Empower us to really live. Deliver us from the fear of death. Remind us how much life really means and how the best is yet to come. Amen.

Isaiah 37:16 ”Lord of Armies, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you are God — you alone — of all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.“

Daily D – Isaiah 32:17

Isaiah 32:17
The result of righteousness will be peace;
the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.

Daily D – Isaiah 26:3-4

Isaiah 26:3, 4
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you
in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
because in the LORD, the LORD himself, is an everlasting rock!

Daily D – Psalm 113

Psalm 113
Hallelujah!
Give praise, servants of the LORD;
praise the name of the LORD.
Let the name of the LORD be blessed
both now and forever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
let the name of the LORD be praised.

The LORD is exalted above all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God —
the one enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the trash heap
in order to seat them with nobles —
with the nobles of his people.
He gives the childless woman a household,
making her the joyful mother of children.
Hallelujah!

Daily D – Psalm 112:4-9

Psalm 112:4-9
Light shines in the darkness for the upright.
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
Good will come to the one who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.
He will never be shaken.
The righteous one will be remembered forever.
He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is assured; he will not fear.
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted in honor.
