Daily D – Proverbs 17:27-28

The one who has knowledge restrains his words, and one who keeps a cool head is a person of understanding. Even a fool is considered wise when he keeps silent — discerning, when he seals his lips.
PROVERBS 17:27-28 (CSB)

_____________________________________________________________________________

The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
(NIV)

A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered. (NLT)

The one who knows much says little; an understanding person remains calm.(MSG)

Most of the time, the less said, the better.

There have been times when I wish I had said more. There have been many more times when I wish I would have said less.

A pharmacist who did not attend the church where I was pastor told me something important. He said, “Preacher, there is no such thing as a bad twelve-minute sermon.”

Restraint is good. Restraint is wise.

A coworker and I are leading training today. We have a lot of information to cover. Any part of what we are covering could expend into a full day’s worth of training. However, we only have today. We must focus on what is most important in the time we have. Additional coaching conversations at later times can be offered to those who would like more information.

I will keep calm and use words with restraint.

Our Father, empower me to say enough and restrain me from saying too much. Amen.

When you pass through the waters,

When you walk through the fire,
you will not be scorched,
and the flame will not burn you.“
