Daily D – Jeremiah 32:26

The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: “Look, I am the LORD, the God over every creature. Is anything too difficult for me?
JEREMIAH 32:26 (CSB)

—————————————————————————

Oh, Lord GOD! You yourself made the heavens and earth by your great power and with your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you!
(Jeremiah 32:17)
“The LORD who made the earth, the LORD who forms it to establish it, the LORD is his name, says this: Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.
(Jeremiah 33:2, 3)

Haiti’s death toll from last week’s earthquake rises ever higher. As of this moment, it is over 1,200.

In Afghanistan, Taliban members go from home to home killing those who worked with Americans. Women and children are raped and turned into sex slaves and are forced into marriages to Taliban warriors.

A report yesterday tells us that due to the new variants of COVID, up to eighty percent of people now alive will come down with COVID up to two or three times in their lives.

It must be Monday.

Paul Harvey used to say, “In times like these, it’s good to remember there have always been times like these.” He was right. Those who know history, know how our world has endured similar catastrophes. In every age, there have been men and women who pushed through the pain and the problems to build a better world. Now it’s our turn.

The headlines and videos are nauseating. If you could write better headlines, what would you say? Here is a prayer prompt for today: Write those headlines and pray that way.

News media darlings and carefully curated pundits will assess blame in print and on screen. Pay little attention to such foolishness. Instead, listen and look for those who seek to bring solutions rather than blame. In a land you would have trouble finding on a map, a group of world leaders is meeting. They are seeking a preferred path forward through the mayhem, death, and disease we are now witnessing.

What headlines will you write for leaders like these? What prayers will you pray for them?

Mr. Rogers famously told us to look for the helpers on days like this. Indeed, look for them. Pray for them. Join them in bringing God’s peace, comfort, and healing. It is time for mature and wise men and women to step up and lead the way.

—————————————————————————

I will work for better headlines.

—————————————————————————

Our Father, you alone can solve our problems. You alone can bring enduring peace. You alone can rescue the perishing. Use us in whatever manner you see fit to build a better world. Deliver us from the blame game and from unproductive arguments. Amen.

Daily D – Isaiah 26:3-4

Isaiah 26:3, 4
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you
in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
because in the LORD, the LORD himself, is an everlasting rock!

Daily D – Psalm 113

Psalm 113
Hallelujah!
Give praise, servants of the LORD;
praise the name of the LORD.
Let the name of the LORD be blessed
both now and forever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
let the name of the LORD be praised.

The LORD is exalted above all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God —
the one enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the trash heap
in order to seat them with nobles —
with the nobles of his people.
He gives the childless woman a household,
making her the joyful mother of children.
Hallelujah!

Daily D – Psalm 112:4-9

Psalm 112:4-9
Light shines in the darkness for the upright.
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
Good will come to the one who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.
He will never be shaken.
The righteous one will be remembered forever.
He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is assured; he will not fear.
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted in honor.

Daily D – Isaiah 9:6

Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born for us,
a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Daily D – Isaiah 6:8

Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking: Who will I send? Who will go for us? I said: Here I am. Send me.“
