Proverbs 16:21  The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction. (NIV)

Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. (NIV)

Two verses stand between complementary truths. The common idea is gracious words.

Take a look at verse 21 from The Message:

A wise person gets known for insight;
gracious words add to one’s reputation.
And verse 24:
Gracious speech is like clover honey—
good taste to the soul, quick energy for the body.

Facts are friends. We hear too few facts today and too much opinion. Facts and truth communicated with graciousness are persuasive.

I heard a guy say, “When I’m abrasive, I’m never persuasive.” This catchy saying is helpful. Let’s help people learn it and practice what it says.

Gracious words promote instruction.

Gracious words promote healing.

Today is a good day to practice gracious words.

If you cannot say it graciously, do you need to say it at all?

This is a point worth pondering.

This is a point worth practicing.

I will practice promote instruction and healing through gracious words.

Our Father, I need your help. Remove critical, hurtful, snarky, sarcastic speech from my mouth. Fill my mind with gracious words. My communication shaped by your grace flow through the words I speak, write, and think. Amen.

I have called you by your name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you,
and the rivers will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be scorched,
and the flame will not burn you.“

do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you; I will help you;
I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.”
