Ecclesiastes 10:4  If a ruler’s anger rises against you, do not leave your post; calmness can lay great offenses to rest.

Calm is a superpower.

Hyperactive brainwaves combined with hyperventilation lead to failure many times more often than success. The person who can keep his or her head when everyone else loses theirs most often wins.

Power is not best displayed with loud commands or threatening actions. It shows up instead through focused activity and purposeful steps.

Verse 10 in this chapter helps us with additional understanding.

If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.

The Message paraphrase sheds more light:

Remember: The duller the ax the harder the work;
Use your head: The more brains, the less muscle.

Turn back two chapters and notice in 8:5, 6, “the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure. For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter.”

Lessons for today?
1. Calm is a superpower.
2. Power is displayed through focused activity and purposeful steps.
3. Wisdom is stronger than strength.
4. Proper time and procedure accelerate successful outcomes.

Since it is hard to master four things at once, which one of these deserves your best, focused attention today? Once you have mastered this lesson, which one comes next? Continue along those lines until all four become routine.

I will lead myself well so that I may lead others well.

Our Father, thank you for wisdom and truth. Thank you for the success it makes possible. Empower me to lead myself well so that I may lead others with wisdom and skill. Amen.

Daily D – Isaiah 32:17

Isaiah 32:17

the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.

Daily D – Isaiah 26:3-4

Isaiah 26:3, 4
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you
in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in you.

Daily D – Psalm 113

Psalm 113
Hallelujah!
Give praise, servants of the LORD;
praise the name of the LORD.
Let the name of the LORD be blessed
both now and forever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
let the name of the LORD be praised.

The LORD is exalted above all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God —
the one enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the trash heap
in order to seat them with nobles —
with the nobles of his people.
He gives the childless woman a household,
making her the joyful mother of children.
Hallelujah!

Daily D – Psalm 112:4-9

Psalm 112:4-9
Light shines in the darkness for the upright.
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
Good will come to the one who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.
He will never be shaken.
The righteous one will be remembered forever.
He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is assured; he will not fear.
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted in honor.
