Habakkuk 2:20
“The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” (NIV)

“But oh! God is in his holy Temple! Quiet everyone—a holy silence. Listen!” (MSG)

God is worth waiting for. His words are worth hearing and obeying. The best way to wait for him is with attentive silence and calm stillness.

Live with a bias for action, yes. Live with a bias for hearing and obeying God before taking action, amen.

A settled heart full of expectation and anticipation is more likely to hear God’s will and to know God’s ways.

True worship is more often experienced and expressed in moments of solitude and silence than in rhythmic bouncing to drums and guitars. The key words to the previous sentence are “more often.”

Personal and private worship seldom mirrors Sunday morning praise by gathered believers. Instead, it prepares us for collective praise and adoration. It empowers congregational expressions of love for God.

Cultivate more silence in God’s presence. Esteem more highly the practice of stillness and anticipation. Trust God to speak. Acknowledge it when he does. Do what he says. Join him in building a better world.

Are you listening? Really listening?

I will be still and silent and wait for God.

Our Father, I will be still and silent and wait for you today, tomorrow, and as a daily habit. Give me ears to hear what you are saying. Give me a willing and obedient heart to do what you say. Empower the work of my hands, direct my steps, place your thoughts in my mind, and your words in my mouth. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
