Psalm 94:19  When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. (NIV)

When I was upset and beside myself, you calmed me down and cheered me up. (The Message)

The Unknown arrived and showed me what I do not know. This caused the uncomfortable sensation we label anxiety. Two things happened next. First came a reminder: Not everything is worth knowing. Then came an insight: What I need to know, I can learn.

This hotel’s internet says it is working. The signal indicates it is operating at full strength. However, none of those tools on this laptop requiring an internet connection were functioning until I switched connections to my iPhone.

I spent way too much time trying to figure out this issue. Glancing at the time, I realized how far behind I am on a day when I should be ahead of the curve instead. My heart began to beat a little faster and I took a moment to distract myself with something else for a few minutes.

Then I remembered the verse of the day in the YouVersion Bible App. It is the verse at the top of the page. It was among the first words I read this morning. I liked it then. I need it now.

The Message paraphrase speaks straight to my soul:

When I was upset and beside myself,
you calmed me down and cheered me up.

Consoled and joyful, calmed and cheered. This is good stuff!

I am back on schedule for my 9 AM brunch and the drive back to the kinder, gentler side of the Metroplex. I have an Audible book to finish followed by a nice selection of podcasts and miles and miles to think and pray. I will dictate notes for later. I will prepare for my meeting this afternoon. And I will get to go home at the end of the day to my wife, dogs, and more reliable internet.

Consoled and joyful. Calmed and cheered.

More coffee, please.

I will enjoy this day.

Our Father, thank you for consoling me and bringing me joy. Thank you for calming my heart and cheering my soul. Amen.

following their own thoughts.“

Daily D – Isaiah 55:8-9

Isaiah 55:8, 9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.“
