Luke 4:14, 15  Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. (NIV)

How would your life differ if you were filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit?

In Luke 3:21, 22, we read about the baptism of Jesus. “And as he was praying, the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

The Holy Spirit came upon Jesus.

In Luke 4:1, 2 we read, “Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil.”

Jesus was full of the Holy Spirt and was led by the Spirit.

After the evil one’s temptations, “Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit,” (verse 14).

Jesus was empowered by the Holy Spirit.

What difference did this make in his life?

* He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him (verse 15).
* They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority (verse 32).
* All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!”
* He healed Peter’s mother-in-law (verses 38 and 39).
* People were “brought to Jesus who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them” (verse 40).

Keep reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and see how Jesus lived his life in the fullness and power of the Holy Spirit.

You and I are not Jesus. We can be filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Our greatest effectiveness where we live, work, and play occurs when we are. When we come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of our lives, meaning he provides the operating system for our lives, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in our lives. We live with his empowerment to the degree we yield to his truth and wisdom and direction.

Ask God to fill you, empower you, and direct you in every thought, conversation, and activity. Learn to trustingly yield to whatever he wants. His every desire is superior to any desire of your own.

How will your life differ today due to God’s empowering presence in your life? Take notes throughout the day and review them tonight. Prepare your adjustments for tomorrow. Live an empowered life that honors God and serves others.

I will invite the Holy Spirit to fill me, empower me, and direct me day by day.

Our Father, please fill me with your Holy Spirit. Empower me for all that is before me today. Direct my thoughts, my speech, and my actions in all things at all times. May others experience your grace and truth through me today. Amen.

Isaiah 37:16 ”Lord of Armies, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you are God — you alone — of all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.“

Daily D – Isaiah 32:17

Isaiah 32:17
The result of righteousness will be peace;
the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.

Daily D – Isaiah 26:3-4

Isaiah 26:3, 4
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you
in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
because in the LORD, the LORD himself, is an everlasting rock!

Daily D – Psalm 113

Psalm 113
Hallelujah!
Give praise, servants of the LORD;
praise the name of the LORD.
Let the name of the LORD be blessed
both now and forever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
let the name of the LORD be praised.

The LORD is exalted above all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God —
the one enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the trash heap
in order to seat them with nobles —
with the nobles of his people.
He gives the childless woman a household,
making her the joyful mother of children.
Hallelujah!

Daily D – Psalm 112:4-9

Psalm 112:4-9
Light shines in the darkness for the upright.
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
Good will come to the one who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.
He will never be shaken.
The righteous one will be remembered forever.
He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is assured; he will not fear.
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted in honor.
