Psalm 11:3, 4  “When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. (NIV)

Tomorrow is Election Day. Today’s news will be filled with outlandish behavior. Tomorrow’s news will be full of warning and dread. How to respond? Remember: “The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne.”

He elected to know you and love you before you were ever conceived. (See Jeremiah 1:5 and Psalm 139:13-16.)

He elected you to experience all of his goodness and love today, tomorrow, and forever. (See Romans 8:28-39.)

His settled disposition is to seek your highest and best. He loves with everlasting love. (See 1 Corinthians 13.)

What can we do today? What should we do every day? Ask God to give us the leaders we need and not the leaders we deserve. (See 1 Timothy 2:1-6.)

When you hear news reports and endless political advertising tell you this is the most important election of all time, smile a knowing smile and recall how God electing to love you, redeem you, restore you, and one day receive you unto himself is the greatest election of all time.

When you hear all the fuss and all the intrigue, remember what the one politician who truly was a man after God’s own heart wrote three thousand years ago:

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.

God is sovereign.
God is watching.
God is redeeming.
God is preparing to set all things straight once and for all.

I will praise God who is sovereign over all things and I will thank God for his final word of loving justice (Psalm 11:7).

Our Father, you are in charge here. Politicians are not. This is some of the best news ever! Between now and the renewal of all things, bless us with the leaders we need and not those we deserve. Deliver us from the plague of power politics. Provide us with politicians of character and faith who seek more than power and control and intrigue. Bless us with politicians who seek to join you in doing what is right, just, and fair for all people everywhere. Amen.

”This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says:
I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you for your benefit,
who leads you in the way you should go.
If only you had paid attention to my commands.
Then your peace would have been like a river,
and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.“

Daily D – Isaiah 43:1-2

Isaiah 43:1, 2

”Now this is what the Lord says —
the one who created you, Jacob,
and the one who formed you, Israel  —
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you,
and the rivers will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be scorched,
and the flame will not burn you.“

do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you; I will help you;
I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.”
