1 Peter 5:6, 7  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (NIV)

1 Chronicles 4:10  Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. (NIV)

When does life get out of hand? When we crawl out from under God’s mighty hand.

When are we most anxious? When we face life’s fierce reality on our own.

There is a better way.

Humble yourself and pray.

Some people live with such confidence in themselves invincibility becomes second nature. Those of us with chronic back pain would like to have a few words with these bulletproof souls. Every Superman and Superwoman has a problem with kryptonite.

What’s your kryptonite? You will discover it sooner than you think if you have not discovered it yet.

Everyone has a problem. Every person has a weakness. Blessed are those who have figured out this reality. The sooner we see ourselves for the time-bound, frail creatures of dust we are, the sooner seek God’s mighty hand to protect us, defend us, strengthen us, and use us to serve those who are figuring out their lack of invulnerability.

We begin living lives characterized as demonstrating a non-anxious presence when we willingly place ourselves under God’s mighty hand. He loves us with an everlasting love. Everything he does is motivated and animated by that love. Everything he brings to our lives or allows in our lives is directed toward seeking our highest good. That goodness is a stream to bless others with peace and purpose.

The three Bible verses above provide good prayer guidance for the beginning of our days. Pray like this morning by morning:

1. Keep me under your mighty hand.
2. Protect me.
3. Defend me.
4. Empower me.
5. Enlarge my area of influence so that others may see how good you are.

These verses remind us that prayer is not powerful, but God powerfully works in and through our lives when we humble ourselves under his mighty hand and seek to live lives of salt and light in a dark and tasteless world.

May you live fearlessly, confidently, influentially, and humbly as you seek to honor God and serve others.

I will live my life under God’s mighty hand.

Our Father, I yield my life to your intentions. Hold me, direct me, use me. Fill me, empower me, control me. Use me in whatever manner you see fit to demonstrate your marvelous and amazing grace. Amen.

Isaiah 37:16 ”Lord of Armies, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you are God — you alone — of all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.“

Daily D – Isaiah 32:17

Isaiah 32:17
The result of righteousness will be peace;
the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.

Daily D – Isaiah 26:3-4

Isaiah 26:3, 4
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you
in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
because in the LORD, the LORD himself, is an everlasting rock!

Daily D – Psalm 113

Psalm 113
Hallelujah!
Give praise, servants of the LORD;
praise the name of the LORD.
Let the name of the LORD be blessed
both now and forever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
let the name of the LORD be praised.

The LORD is exalted above all the nations,
his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God —
the one enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the trash heap
in order to seat them with nobles —
with the nobles of his people.
He gives the childless woman a household,
making her the joyful mother of children.
Hallelujah!

Daily D – Psalm 112:4-9

Psalm 112:4-9
Light shines in the darkness for the upright.
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
Good will come to the one who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.
He will never be shaken.
The righteous one will be remembered forever.
He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is assured; he will not fear.
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted in honor.
