Genesis 47:25  “You have saved our lives!” they exclaimed. “May it please you, my Lord, to let us be Pharaoh’s servants.” (NLT)

Genesis 45:5  “But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives.” (NLT)

Genesis 50:20  “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.” (NLT)

The best leaders know the world is much bigger than them. They look out not only for their own interests and needs but also for the interests and needs of others.

Joseph knew his personal mission from God. It was not to be a ruler his family would bow down to, even though that’s how it appeared in his early dreams, and how it happened years later. His personal mission was the saving of many lives. As God had saved him, he joined God in his work of saving others.

When his brothers wanted to kill him, God saved his life when he was sold as a slave instead.

When his owner, Potiphar, likely wanted to kill him for what his wife said he had tried to do to her, he threw him in prison instead.

When the cupbearer forgot what Joseph did for him which kept Joseph imprisoned for two more years, Joseph thrived in his administration of the prison.

Joseph knew what it was to have his life saved. He knew what to do to save his own neck in Potiphar’s house. He knew how to run one of the unhealthiest and most dangerous communities on earth. He knew how to listen to God’s dreams for him and follow them to their supernatural conclusion.

Joseph knew God saved him for the purpose of saving many others through him.

Because Joseph lived his mission, Egypt was saved, his family was saved, and he was saved.

One of these days, you and I are going to have our tickets stamped to the Great Beyond. Who will be able to say how we lived our mission led to their salvation?

Ponder this. Adjust accordingly. Live on mission with God.

I will live the kind of life God can use to save others.

Our Father, how may I join you in your work of saving many lives? What can I do? How can I give? Who can I work with to accomplish this purpose? Amen.
