1 Samuel 13:14  “But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” (NLT)

The first requirement of Kingdom leadership, and by far the most important, is having a heart for God. A heart out of alignment and attunement with God’s results in decisions at odds with God’s purposes and power.

Saul unnecessarily learned this the hard way. No matter how tight the squeeze, it’s better to wait on God than to take matters into your own hands.

No matter how late it appears, there is always time for God to do what only God can do in his perfect timing. He is never early. He is never late. Time waits on him.

No matter how urgent or important, God’s presence, power, and purpose are worth the wait.

If you get ahead of God, you are behind a barrier of your own making. You are fenced off from God’s highest and best.

Taking matters into your own hands, and out of God’s, creates weak and incomplete results.

When God says, “Wait,” WAIT.

When God says, “Go,” GO.

An old hymn is helpful. Take My Life and Let It Be includes this line: “Take my hands, and let them move. At the impulse of Thy love; . . . .”

Kingdom leaders move at the impulse of God’s love.

I will move at the impulse of God’s love.

Our Father, move me or stop me. I do not want to get ahead of you. I do not want to fall behind you. I do not want to swerve to the right or left. Keep me in step with you. Empower me to wait patiently on your perfect timing. Amen.

and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.“

I have called you by your name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
