2 Kings 6:33  While Elisha was still saying this, the messenger arrived. And the king said, “All this misery is from the Lord! Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” (NLT)

“Good things come to those who wait,” the old proverbs says. As one who has been waiting for a very long time for the local football team to play well enough to win another Super Bowl, I am less and less inclined to apply this saying to this delay.

I wonder how many good things from God’s hand we have missed because we were unwilling to wait on him. Waiting is a discipline of obedience. Patience is a calming, peace-inducing virtue. One trip to the gym does not strengthen us. Regularly repeated visits will. When God says, “Wait,” pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable.

This is not an invitation to sloth. This is an expectation of deliberate trust. It is a posture of continuing confidence in what God has said. It is a deliberate and focused ease knowing God keeps his promises, empowers us to carry out his instructions, and brings about his purposes in his perfect timing.

What are you waiting for from God? Lean into the coming adventure with a smile of certainty.

I will wait when God says, “Wait.”

Our Father, you are worth waiting for. Your timing is perfect. Your provision matches your guidance. You are withholding nothing I need for the moment I am in. I will get good at waiting. Amen.

Isaiah 48:17, 18

”This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says:
I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you for your benefit,
who leads you in the way you should go.
If only you had paid attention to my commands.
Then your peace would have been like a river,
and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.“

Daily D – Isaiah 43:1-2

Isaiah 43:1, 2

the one who created you, Jacob,
and the one who formed you, Israel  —
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you,
and the rivers will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be scorched,
and the flame will not burn you.“

do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you; I will help you;
I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.”
