2 Chronicles 26:5  Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God. And as long as the king sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success. (NLT)

2 Chronicles 26:16  But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall. He sinned against the Lord his God by entering the sanctuary of the Lord’s Temple and personally burning incense on the incense altar. (NLT)

2 Chronicles 27:6  King Jotham became powerful because he was careful to live in obedience to the Lord his God. (NLT)

Leaders who seek God’s guidance experience success. Leaders who become powerful and prideful experience failure. This is the story told over and over in 2 Chronicles. See the verses above for examples. Based on how you are seeking God today, are you more likely to experience failure or success?

This is the point in the conversation where someone points out the exceptions to the rule. This is a good point in the conversation to remember there is still an observable, repeatable rule. God is more interested in being found than most people are in finding him. As one movie character said in one of my favorite movies, “Confound it, Man! Are you afraid of success?”

Leaders who learn to lean on Jesus are leaders who learn to enjoy the kind of success that builds better lives, better teams, better churches, better schools, better businesses, and better communities.

You can lean on yourself today. Things might even work out well for a time. However, we both know how often depending on ourselves has not exactly worked out as well as we would have preferred.

Seek God. Know and experience him. Listen to his wisdom. Take it to heart. Do what he says. Lead with integrity and character. Trust God from the bottom of your heart. This is where your signature success will come from.

I will seek God’s wisdom and direction.

Our Father, please give me wisdom for everything ahead of me today. Give me your clear direction. You know what I do not. You see what I cannot. Your purpose for my life and for this world is forever “good and pleasing and perfect,” (Romans 12:2). Amen.

Isaiah 48:17, 18

”This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says:
I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you for your benefit,
who leads you in the way you should go.
If only you had paid attention to my commands.
Then your peace would have been like a river,
and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.“

Daily D – Isaiah 43:1-2

Isaiah 43:1, 2

”Now this is what the Lord says —
the one who created you, Jacob,
and the one who formed you, Israel  —
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you,
and the rivers will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be scorched,
and the flame will not burn you.“

do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you; I will help you;
I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.”
