Psalm 56:3  “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” (NLT)

Why does the Bible include 366 commands to Fear Not? Why are we told so often to stop being afraid? Because God is bigger than whatever causes us fear. Nothing we ever face is capable of getting between us and God’s love for us. (See Romans 8:35 and following.)

King David gives us perspective. David knew fear. He also knew God. He knew which was bigger, stronger, faster. He knew who to turn to when the hair stood up on his neck and his heart pounded.

“But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.”

He ran to his rock, his refuge, his hiding place.

He remembered what God had done for him before.

“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book,” (verse 8).

God’s watch-care included a book of sorrows.

David trusted God because God was trustworthy. God knew all about where had been and what he had experienced. He knew the wins and the losses. This gave Dave confidence.

“I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?” (Verse 11).

1. Some experiences are fearful.
2. God is bigger than whatever we fear.
3. God knows all about our sorrows.
4. We overcome fear when we look back with gratitude.
5. We lean forward in confidence because God is more than enough for whatever we face.

I will put my trust in God.

Our Father, I will put my trust in you. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
