Jesus heard this and was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found so great a faith even in Israel.”
LUKE 7:9 (CSB)

People often talk about how they want to see God do something amazing. Maybe the issue here is not God’s ability or our need but our faithfulness. Faithfulness and faith are a powerful combination. God seems to show up most visibly when we need him most and desire him even more.

The Sons of Korah knew this truth and began Psalm 46 with these words:

God is our refuge and strength,
a helper who is always found
in times of trouble.
Verse 10 is the one we remember most fondly:
“Stop fighting, and know that I am God,
exalted among the nations,
exalted on the earth.”

Amazing happens when we see Jesus for who he is and our desires for what they are. When we have a God-exalting desire and cause, when we need what only God can do, amazing is much more often in the making.

Hear Psalm 46:10 from The Message:

“Step out of the traffic! Take a long,
loving look at me, your High God,
above politics, above everything.”
And so a centurion’s servant was healed. Jesus was amazed. All things ended well.
Live faithfully. Live full of faith. Live amazingly.

I will live faithfully and full of faith.

Our Father, our friend Gerry talks about finding our amazing. I understand better what he means. Empower me to live so faithfully and so full of faith that amazing is ordinary. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
