Daily D – 1 Samuel 13:13-14

Samuel said to Saul, “You have been foolish. You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you. It was at this time that the LORD would have permanently established your reign over Israel, but now your reign will not endure. The LORD has found a man after his own heart, and the LORD has appointed him as ruler over his people, because you have not done what the LORD commanded.”
1 SAMUEL 13:13-14 (CSB)

Bible characters from Genesis to Revelation are told to wait. They are told to wait on God in one situation or another. God is never early and never late. He is always on time.

Good things come to those who wait, you may have heard, and not to those who hesitate. How many of God’s best blessings have been missed because we did not wait? How many have been missed because we hesitated when God said, “Go?”

Saul was impulsive. Saul was impatient. These characteristics cost him severely. They cost him a dynastic kingdom. They very nearly cost him the life of his son as we see in the next chapter. He later fully intended to take the life of his son-in-law, the man these verses indicate is a man after God’s heart.

Life lessons:

1. Get good at waiting when God says, “Wait.”
2. Do not hesitate when God says, “Go.”
3. Do not attempt to help God with impulsive decisions.

I will wait and respond in God’s perfect timing.

Our Father, my impulsiveness drives me recklessly forward. My timidity holds me back. Please deliver me from these twin evils. Empower me to live in the flow of your leadership, or as the old song says, “at the impulse of your will.” Amen.
