“Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
MATTHEW 7:7-8 (CSB)

A coaching conversation with one of the most highly-regarded coaches of our day this week unlocked a truth I cannot believe I have not fully grasped until now. Put a pin in this thought and we will return to it soon.

* What are your God-honoring desires?
* What do you want to accomplish that both honors God and serves others
* What do you want that makes God smile?
* What do you want that builds a better world?

Psalm 20 is a psalm of blessing. Notice verses 4 and 5:

May he give you what your heart desires
and fulfill your whole purpose.
Let us shout for joy at your victory
and lift the banner in the name of our God.
May the LORD fulfill all your requests.

Psalm 37:4 says,

Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Matthew 7:7-12 comes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Notice what he says God wants for you and me.

* He wants to hear and answer our prayers
* He answers our prayers better than we pray them
* He gives good things to us when we ask him

Back to my coaching conversation this week. Pondering aloud an idea I was considering, the coach asked, “What desire has God placed in your heart? Since God wants to give you the desires he has placed in your heart, what is your best next step?”

Here on this sunny Saturday are questions worth pondering as you take your dogs for a long walk, as you mow the yard, as you shop for groceries, and as you sit and reflect.

What desire has God placed in your heart?

What is your best next step?

I will step into the goodness God desires for me.

Our Father, please forgive me for getting to this point in my life and not fully embracing the fact that what you want for me is better than what I want for myself. Not only do you want good things for me, but those things are readily available when I lean into the special future you have prepared for me. The shared delight of your goodness and grace results in success and joy far beyond present boundaries. Amen.

I spread out my hands all day long
to a rebellious people
who walk in the path that is not good,
following their own thoughts.“

Isaiah 61:3

planted by the LORD
to glorify him.
(CSB)

he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for his own glory.“

You fast with contention and strife
to strike viciously with your fist.
You cannot fast as you do today,
hoping to make your voice heard on high.“

Daily D – Isaiah 55:8-9

Isaiah 55:8, 9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.“
