Daily D – Jeremiah 6:16

This is what the LORD says: Stand by the roadways and look. Ask about the ancient paths, “Which is the way to what is good?” Then take it and find rest for yourselves. But they protested, “We won’t!”
JEREMIAH 6:16 (CSB)

—————————————————————————

“Go stand at the crossroads and look around.
Ask for directions to the old road,
The tried-and-true road. Then take it.
Discover the right route for your souls.
But they said, ‘Nothing doing.
We aren’t going that way.’”

(The Message)

So apparently, Fleetwood Mac was not the first to write Go Your Own Way. It appears God through Jeremiah was.

There are some paths worth rebelling against. There are some less-traveled-by pathways worth the walk. However, whenever we discover we are walking away from God, attempting to walk all by ourselves, walking in our own arrogance and foolishness, well, that’s never a good way to go.

There is ample evidence of this truth. So why do people keep trying it? Deception, especially self-deception, is powerful. It allures us with promises it can’t keep. It presents self-centered dreams that inevitably turn out to be nothing more than dangerous fantasies.

Rather than plotting paths of fantasy and failure, ask God for directions. “Which is the way to what is good?” This is a prayer he loves to answer. He will show you the way. You will find adventure and rest. And you will always arrive at the right place at the right time. This is the good life. This is the dream you awaken from to find it has become your ultimate reality.

Fantasies are like bubbles that burst leaving nothing but slippery surfaces for your unsteady steps.

Aren’t you glad God answers simple prayers? One daily prayer we each should pray is “What is the good and which is the way?”

I will seek God’s ancient paths, his tried-and-true road.

Our Father, what is the good you have for me today? Open my eyes and show me your way. Amen.

to a rebellious people
who walk in the path that is not good,
following their own thoughts.“

planted by the LORD
to glorify him.
(CSB)

a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for his own glory.“

You fast with contention and strife
to strike viciously with your fist.
You cannot fast as you do today,
hoping to make your voice heard on high.“

Daily D – Isaiah 55:8-9

Isaiah 55:8, 9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.“
