Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?”
MATTHEW 20:32 (CSB)

—————————————————————————

Two out of three of my devices can connect to the internet in this hotel. This laptop is the odd device out. We are currently piggybacking off of my iPhone. So, we better make this quick. (Too late.)

Take a look at this story in verses 29-34. Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem, to the Last Supper, to the Garden of Gethsemane, to trials, to conviction, to crucifixion. Two guys were yelling at the top of their lungs as Jesus was taking those last steps toward paying the penalty for your sins and mine.

How did Jesus respond to desperate men yelling obnoxiously?

Jesus stopped (verse 32).

Jesus called them.

Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”

Take a look at this text again. These men are blind. It’s a beautiful day, but they can’t see it. And Jesus asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” Such a question today would make the Twitterverse howl.

“Lord, open our eyes.”

“Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes,” (verse 34).

Jesus wanted what they wanted. “Immediately they could see.”

They followed him. Wouldn’t you?

Where do your desires and God’s desires meet today? Feel free to take a moment to ponder the question. When you have a good answer, hear Jesus’ question again, this time addressed to you.

“What do you want me to do for you?”

This is where true prayer begins. This is where the great adventure of following Jesus begins. This is where we can look and see and embrace all that those last steps to the cross made possible.

I will look for what Jesus wants.
I will see what he sees.
I will go where he leads.

—————————————————————————

I will pray from that place where my deepest desire for myself matches God’s deepest desire for me.

—————————————————————————

Our Father, I want what you want. Amen.

Daily D – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

Daily D – 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2 Thessalonians 1:3 “Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.”

Daily D – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3 “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Daily D – Colossians 2:8-10

Colossians 2:8-10 “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

Daily D – Philippians 2:2-5

Philippians 2:2-5 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
