Daily D – Jeremiah 36:3

Perhaps when the house of Judah hears about all the disaster I am planning to bring on them, each one of them will turn from his evil way. Then I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.
JEREMIAH 36:3 (CSB)

—————————————————————————

God is more interested in forgiving you than you are in being forgiven.

Why then should we fear bringing our problematic past to our Father in heaven who offers a preferred future now and an eternal home where there is no more sorrow, no more tears, no more pain, and no more separation?

Each day in these devotional thoughts, we follow the SOAP acrostic. The A stands for Application. We begin the Application with the same two words each time: I will. Notice God’s application of his mercy, grace, and forgiveness for those who come to him in repentance and faith. He says, “I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.”

So let’s keep this simple. What is it that you have done that you think God would have a hard time forgiving? Confess it to him. That word means to agree with God about the sin. You see it the way he sees it. You call it what he calls it.

To repent is to turn away from the sin. Having seen the harm it causes you and others, you do not want a repeat of those consequences for you or others. Turn away from the pain and the problems and turn to God and his healing grace.

God our Father does not begrudgingly withhold his forgiveness making you beg and cower and act all weepy. He seized the initiative long before you were born. He took steps to reconcile you before you knew there was a disruption in the relationship. He sent his one and only Son to the cross to pay the penalty for your sin and mine before we were born.

You and I never have to wonder if God loves us, really, really loves us. He settled that on the cross. When he says, “I will forgive their iniquity and their sin,” he means you, and he means me, and means everyone everywhere who will receive his amazing grace.

Can you believe it?

Will you receive it?

—————————————————————————

I will turn from my sin to my Savior.

—————————————————————————

Our Father, how generous you are with your love and forgiveness! Thank you for doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Your amazing grace is the metanarrative of the universe. Nothing, no nothing, begins to compare to the beauty and wonder of your initiative, your provision, and your application of healing and saving grace. Amen.
