2 Samuel 22:1  David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.

There is a song for every occasion. King David knew this. Whether he was sad or glad or mad, he wrote songs to express what was in his heart and on his mind.

What’s on your playlist today?

It’s amazing how singing a song, or listening to one sung well, can shift our moods and redirect our thoughts. Where are your thoughts now? Where do they need to be? What songs will take you there?

There is one highway we drive frequently which requires a certain playlist. It is a playlist for recalling memories, for rethinking events long past.

My bride has a curated collection of certain songs for when she is feeling blue. They remind her she is not alone in feelings like these. They refocus her on her sure hope. They help her sing her emotions until her emotions obey her command. Neil Diamond must have been right.

Song sung blue
Everybody knows one
Song sung blue
Every garden grows one

Me and you are subject to the blues now and then
But when you take the blues and make a song
You sing them out again
Sing them out again

Song sung blue
Weeping like a willow
Song sung blue
Sleeping on my pillow

Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice
And before you know, it get to feeling good
You simply got no choice

Now is a good time to sing a song. What song will you sing?

I will sing praise to the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Our Father, thank you for giving us songs to sing. You bless us with expression deeper, higher, and broader than words can contain. You put a song in our hearts. Teach us to sing. Amen.

Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him.

Daily D – Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8 Mankind, he has told each of you what is good
and what it is the Lord requires of you:
to act justly,
to love faithfulness,
and to walk humbly with your God.

Daily D – Micah 4:5

Micah 4:5 Though all the peoples walk in the name of their own gods, we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.

Daily D – Jonah 4:1-3

Jonah 4:1-3 Jonah was greatly displeased and became furious. He prayed to the Lord, “Please, Lord, isn’t this what I said while I was still in my own country? That’s why I fled toward Tarshish in the first place. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in faithful love, and one who relents from sending disaster. And now, Lord, take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

Daily D – Psalm 128:1-4

Psalm 128:1-4

How happy is everyone who fears the LORD,
who walks in his ways!
You will surely eat
what your hands have worked for.
You will be happy,
and it will go well for you.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house,
your children, like young olive trees
around your table.
In this very way
the man who fears the LORD
will be blessed.
