1 Corinthians 14:3  But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. (NIV)

1 Corinthians 14:1-3 Go after a life of love as if your life depended on it—because it does. Give yourselves to the gifts God gives you. Most of all, try to proclaim his truth. If you praise him in the private language of tongues, God understands you but no one else does, for you are sharing intimacies just between you and him. But when you proclaim his truth in everyday speech, you’re letting others in on the truth so that they can grow and be strong and experience his presence with you. (MSG)

A famous basketball player had harsh things to say about another famous person. He said these things to television reporters with cameras recording. There is no evidence he addressed his concerns with the other famous person. This is a famously bad way to win friends and influence people.

The next time you want to address someone else’s bad behavior, focus on doing it in such a manner that the other person walks away strengthened, encouraged, and comforted.

If you cannot address someone else’s bad behavior in this manner, strongly consider that you are also behaving badly and require a rebuke.

Bad form is bad form regardless of motive or purpose.

We live in a day where people love putting others in their place. This is one of the singularly most ineffective and unhelpful things we can do. It is more like lighting a string of firecrackers than popping only one. It is noisy, messy, and irritating. It is also completely unhelpful.

We build better people, better homes, better businesses, and better ministries when we focus less on behavior and more on character development. The next time you need to address problematic performance, slow down your heart and mind so that you can find a way to do so in a manner that strengthens, encourages, and comforts.

I will address others in a manner that strengthens, encourages, and comforts.

Our Father, I prefer power over patience. Empower me to reflect you more and more. You are eternally patient. Give me the wisdom necessary to slow down and provide instruction and correction that strengthens, encourages, and comforts. Amen.

Daily D – Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8 Mankind, he has told each of you what is good
and what it is the Lord requires of you:
to act justly,
to love faithfulness,
and to walk humbly with your God.

Daily D – Micah 4:5

Micah 4:5 Though all the peoples walk in the name of their own gods, we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.

Daily D – Jonah 4:1-3

Jonah 4:1-3 Jonah was greatly displeased and became furious. He prayed to the Lord, “Please, Lord, isn’t this what I said while I was still in my own country? That’s why I fled toward Tarshish in the first place. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in faithful love, and one who relents from sending disaster. And now, Lord, take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

Daily D – Psalm 128:1-4

Psalm 128:1-4

How happy is everyone who fears the LORD,
who walks in his ways!
You will surely eat
what your hands have worked for.
You will be happy,
and it will go well for you.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house,
your children, like young olive trees
around your table.
In this very way
the man who fears the LORD
will be blessed.
