“The LORD declares to you: The LORD himself will make a house for you.”
2 SAMUEL 7:11 (CSB)

Simple stuff for a Saturday: David now king wanted to do something good for God. He wanted to honor God. God turned the tables. He chose this moment to reveal to David that he was honoring him. God was honoring David.

David’s family line would “endure before me forever, and your throne will be established forever,” (verse 16). We know the rest of the story and how that story includes Jesus as the ultimate king, the King of Kings. David did not understand all of that at the time.

David’s prayer in verses 18-29 is a beautiful and fitting response to what God told him. It begins with these words: “Who am I?”

David knew this was all about God and not all about him. This is one of the most important lessons of life. We live not to build reputations nor to gather accolades. We live to honor God and to serve others in his name.

Live a life God can bless. God honors those who honor him.

What will you do today that honors God and blesses others?

_____________________________________________________________________________

I will honor God and serve others in his name.

Our Father, I want to live a life you can bless. I want to honor you in all I do. Make me a blessing to someone today. Amen.

Daily D – Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8 Mankind, he has told each of you what is good
and what it is the Lord requires of you:
to act justly,
to love faithfulness,
and to walk humbly with your God.

Daily D – Micah 4:5

Micah 4:5 Though all the peoples walk in the name of their own gods, we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.

Daily D – Jonah 4:1-3

Jonah 4:1-3 Jonah was greatly displeased and became furious. He prayed to the Lord, “Please, Lord, isn’t this what I said while I was still in my own country? That’s why I fled toward Tarshish in the first place. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in faithful love, and one who relents from sending disaster. And now, Lord, take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

Daily D – Psalm 128:1-4

Psalm 128:1-4

How happy is everyone who fears the LORD,
who walks in his ways!
You will surely eat
what your hands have worked for.
You will be happy,
and it will go well for you.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house,
your children, like young olive trees
around your table.
In this very way
the man who fears the LORD
will be blessed.
