You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you. Trust in the LORD forever, because the LORD, the LORD himself, is an everlasting rock!
ISAIAH 26:3-4 (CSB)

You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Trust in the LORD always,
for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock.
(New Living Translation)

A word spoken at the right time
is like gold apples in silver settings.
(Proverbs 25:11)

Weariness and grief wear down souls. Every heart knows its own burden.

Into the gathering gloom, God speaks words of truth and life, strength and hope. This text from Isaiah reminds us of Proverbs 3:5, 6:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
in all your ways know him,
and he will make your paths straight.

The Message paraphrases these verses this way:

Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.

These are good reminders for gloomy days. Should the day break bright and fair tomorrow, they will remain timely reminders. In our best days and on our worst, God is God and God is good. His peace is present for all who trust him.

You may not need these reminders today. File them away where you can retrieve them when you do need them. Into every life falls a little rain. Into every soul creeps a little gloom. Our Father in heaven wants us to remember that he transcends the gloom and damp. He wants us to know and experience him in our discomfort and grief.

Today is a good day to practice God’s presence and to depend upon his peace.

I will trust God from the bottom of my heart.

Our Father, I trust you. Thank you for your presence and your peace. Amen.

Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him.

Daily D – Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8 Mankind, he has told each of you what is good
and what it is the Lord requires of you:
to act justly,
to love faithfulness,
and to walk humbly with your God.

Daily D – Micah 4:5

Micah 4:5 Though all the peoples walk in the name of their own gods, we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.

Daily D – Jonah 4:1-3

Jonah 4:1-3 Jonah was greatly displeased and became furious. He prayed to the Lord, “Please, Lord, isn’t this what I said while I was still in my own country? That’s why I fled toward Tarshish in the first place. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in faithful love, and one who relents from sending disaster. And now, Lord, take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

Daily D – Psalm 128:1-4

Psalm 128:1-4

How happy is everyone who fears the LORD,
who walks in his ways!
You will surely eat
what your hands have worked for.
You will be happy,
and it will go well for you.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house,
your children, like young olive trees
around your table.
In this very way
the man who fears the LORD
will be blessed.
