Psalm 95:6, 7  Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice, . . .

We no longer have politics as usual. We no longer have political theater performed daily for insatiable news outlets. Instead, we have presidents and politicians calling one another enemies of the state.

We can engage. We can retreat. Or, much more helpfully, we can pray.

Turn to 1 Timothy 2:1-8. Take note of these words:

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

And this:

Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Today’s reading from Ezekiel 21 declares these words in verse 27:

“A ruin! A ruin! I will make it a ruin! The crown will not be restored until he to whom it rightfully belongs shall come; to him I will give it.’
‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭21:27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Let’s remember who is ultimately in charge here. Come, Lord Jesus.

I will pray for the leaders we need and to be delivered from the leaders we deserve.

Our Father, forgive us for esteeming human leaders far too highly. Forgive us for not listening for your voice and for not following your clear directions. Please lead us from where we are to where we need to be. Bless us with the leaders we need and deliver us from the leaders we deserve. Amen.

Daily D – Job 11:13-18

Job 11:13-18 **

“As for you, if you redirect your heart
and spread out your hands to him in prayer —
if there is iniquity in your hand, remove it,
and don’t allow injustice to dwell in your tents —
then you will hold your head high, free from fault.
You will be firmly established and unafraid.
For you will forget your suffering,
recalling it only as water that has flowed by.
Your life will be brighter than noonday;
its darkness will be like the morning.
You will be confident, because there is hope.
You will look carefully about and lie down in safety.”

Daily D – Job 4:8

Job 4:8 “In my experience, those who plow injustice and those who sow trouble reap the same.”

Daily D – Job 2:13

Job 2:13 Then they sat on the ground with him seven days and nights, but no one spoke a word to him because they saw that his suffering was very intense.

Daily D – Zephaniah 3:17

Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing.

Daily D – Habakkuk 3:19

Habakkuk 3:19 “The Lord my Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights!”
For the choir director: on stringed instruments.
